SEO Learning Series 6 – Driving People To Your Website

Up until now, you have learned some of the techniques to get SEARCH ENGINES to your website. That is 50% of SEO. The other 50% is getting PEOPLE to your website.

THERE ARE 3 WAYS FOR VISITORS TO ACCESS YOUR WEBSITE:

The website is indexed by a search browser or directory.
The absolute path of the website (directly type in name of the website).
Link to your website from another website (blog, newsletter, etc).
Website Indexed by a Search Browsers

When people query the search browser they actually are tapping into a large database or stored information. There is usually a delay from the crawl cycle to the index cycle. Although your website may have been crawled, it won’t show up on the index until the next refresh. If you change your web pages, crawler-based search browsers eventually find these changes during the crawl cycle. Page titles, body text, and other elements all play a role in how well you are found in the index of a particular key phrase. Search browsers use indexes to store pages of a website.

What are Search Browsers – What are Search Engines?

Website Indexed by a Directory

A directory depends on humans for its listings. You submit a short description to the directory for your entire website, or editors write one for websites they review. A search looks for matches only in the descriptions submitted. Changing your web pages has no effect on your listing. When you improve a website it has nothing to do with improving your listing in a directory. Having a good website might be more likely to get clicks and therefore popularity plays a role in directories.
