Knowledge is Power – Is this Business Opportunity for Real?

As in most things… if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

A business opportunity can be in the form of many things such as an idea a relative has but can’t do on his or her own, a franchise business, a business being sold by its owner or simply starting on your own in a small and unused room in your house.

But whatever the business opportunity is, most of the time, it will require you to deal with an ‘unknown’. For example, one of the most often business opportunities people are faced with is the opportunity to buy a franchise. If the franchise is quite known then you probably won’t hesitate to join in. But what if it’s not?

There are many ways to know if a business opportunity is real.

Have YOU ever heard of this business opportunity before? Ask yourself if you’ve ever heard or encountered this business opportunity in front of you. After all, if it’s so great then somebody must know about it. If you haven’t heard of it before, make a quick check if you can find the company online or if its telephone number is listed on the Yellow Pages… and more importantly, can you reach them?

Contact the Better Business Bureau (BBB). The BBB is a great organization you can utilize to check up on business opportunities that present themselves to you. By checking with the BBB, you can find out if a company has a bad reputation or is known to be quite deceiving.

Ask for company records. So, a business opportunity states that you can earn $1000 weekly. Well, ask them to prove it! Ask for reports, records, ledgers and other items that will back up their claims.

Ask for a list of previous clients. One sure way to check if a business opportunity is for real is to contact its previous clients and to ask about their experience with the company marketing the business opportunity.
