Search Engine Optimization Part 1

Search Engine Optimization Learning Series – 1

Happy JULY 4th! It’s one of my favorite times of the year! As promised, we shall begin Search Engine Optimization (SEO) 101.

Search Engine Optimization means getting web pages (not websites), found in search engines such as “Google”. SEO is an “organic” search, meaning that you want people to find your web pages when they DON’T know your company name or website domain name (i.e. www.WebDesignIsland.com). You want the web page to come up “organically” when someone uses a key phase.

There is such a thing as a key phrase generator that is free by Google that you can actually put in key phrases to see how many times that key phrase is searched, weekly, monthly, locally, globally, etc. This generator is used to determine what key phrases you will want to put in your web pages to get them pulled up in the search engines when someone uses those phrases.

Key phrases go into the actual text in your web pages and in the code of your web pages. They should also be used in link names and you can even name your photos (graphics) with the name of the key phrase. The whole point is to have them contained on the page.

All the links you see on a Google page are individual web pages. You have the opportunity to optimize each and every one of your web pages with different key phrases for each page as if they are totally unrelated. If each page is optimized for the phrase being searched, that page will come up and the visitor will be satisfied with the information they were searching for.
